Sometimes, Round Two: Day 19 of 365 – The Senses and The Senseless!

Sometimes The Senseless Overwhelms The Senses!

There are so many senseless things that happen in this world. Not a day goes by that at least one senseless event takes place. Although most events, if examined and evaluated, have some rational explanation many are just plain senseless.

Earthquakes are senseless. Tsunamis are senseless. Wars are senseless. Diseases are senseless. Acts of racism are senseless. Hateful/hurtful statements are senseless. Lying and deception are senseless. Senseless events occur in nature. They occur in politics. They occur in religion. They occur education. They occur in relationships. They occur everywhere. I could go on but I won’t.

The point is, the Senseless is part and parcel of our daily lives. Many, many times senseless events barely ruffle the feathers of our emotions. However, Sometimes The Senseless Overwhelms The Senses! Sometimes the Senseless is personal. It seems to take up residence in our guest room. It rides along in our vehicle. It follows us to school or work. It fiddles with our finances. It attacks our psyche. It seeks to split our spirit. It simply overwhelms our senses.

What are we to do when we find ourselves in such situations?

  • Recognize that we are overwhelmed and are unlikely to be in the best shape to make decisions.
  • Find a quiet place and Breathe . . . Calm down.
  • Take stock of where we are and make sure we are safe.
  • Reach out to people who care for us and are willing to be supportive.
  • Talk through the things that have overwhelmed us.
  • Sort out the things we can address vs. the tings that are beyond our control.
  • Make Plans and Take Action where possible.
  • Determine to let go of those things over which we have no control.
  • Realize that nothing is permanent and situations will change.
  • Bestow a little Grace on ourselves and prepare for living.

None of the things listed above will keep the Senseless from invading our space. They won’t make us immune to its effects. They will, however, give us a fighting chance to survive the next time the Senseless Overwhelms The Senses.

Peace!
