Day Two Hundred Twenty of 365 – Things That Make Me Think: When Words Fail

The world is full of words! Words, words, words! Words are used for everything! We use words in advertising, books, emails, texts (well, mostly), televisions, movies, magazines and posters. We use words in speeches, conversations, commercials, songs and poetry. We use words to spread news, share information, broadcast alerts and create plays. We use words to give hope, cast doubt, bring down, lift up, spew hate and spread love. WORDS! Words work . . . until they don’t and they don’t work when they fail. When words fail, then I really begin to think.

Words often fail to adequately convey the sentiments consistent with certain situations. Words often fail in times of loss or disappointment or tragedy. Words often fail in times of extreme joy or accomplishment or discovery. It’s at times like these, when words fail, that my brain goes into overdrive.

I begin to think about what to do because there is nothing to say. I begin to think about how to respond because my voice is silent. I begin to think about how to convey feelings that fail to connect with words. And when I think at these times, I am reminded of one very powerful reality.

When words fail, my presence fills the space. Plain and simple, my presence fills the space. And . . . That is enough.

Peace!
