The Lesser Lights! You know what they are! Stars and the moon on a celestial level are examples. Candles, flashlights, camp fires and the like are examples on a terrestrial level.
During the day we rarely pay attention to candles or flashlights! And I can’t think of a time when I have seen a star or the moon in full daylight! We don’t need to see them! The sun, even on cloudy days, provides ample light for us to do our thing! It is only when the sun sets, when night falls that the Lesser Lights take on their unique position! It is only then – in the Dark – that we come to depend on them to move around and explore our world.
But what about the Lesser Lights on a Relational Level? How many Lesser Lights play a powerful role in your life? Lesser Lights you ask? Yes, Lesser Lights – those people who have our back; those who provide unwavering support for us; those who love us at our worst and celebrate us at our best: those who revel in our successes; those who comfort us in our distresses. Yes, our Lesser Lights – the ones without whom we might not make it through life’s tough times!
Who are YOUR Lesser Lights? Who are those that are there for you when the spotlight dims and ominous shadows blanket your path?
I encourage you today to think about you Lesser Lights. When is the last time you expressed your gratitude for their undying love and support? When is the last time you recognized their necessary role in your life? When is the last time YOU served as THEIR Lesser Light?
Think about it . . . and then do something about it!
Peace!
I would like to highlight a powerful group of Lesser Lights who make tremendous contributions to the lives of grieving children on a routine basis! The staff and volunteers for the Journey of Hope Grief Support Center provide much needed light and support for children, adolescents and their parents or adult caregivers as they learn to mourn the death or impending death of a loved one . . . and they do so for FREE! I hope you will take a moment to stop by the website and then consider making a donation to this amazing organization! Thanks!
